Local Tennis Players Have Eyes On State Tournament

But getting past the sectional meets will not be easy.

Seven Greenfield Hustlin’ Hawks and the pair of Whitnall Falcons will have a much tougher task at today’s WIAA sectionals.

The Hawks will host their own sectional at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Perennial powers such as Whitefish Bay, Nicolet and Marquette will be on hand and heavily favored to claim most, if not all, of the automatic qualifying state berths.

In first-round action, Greenfield’s Connor Lewandowski (16-7) will face Whitefish Bay’s Ben Foran (18-4), Adal Chohan (17-5) will take on Bay’s Wentong Zhang (13-4) and Peter Eidsmoe (19-5) will meet Bay’s Matt Kavanagh (21-1) at second, third and fourth singles.

At the Greendale Sectional at 9 a.m. Thursday, Whitnall’s Alex and Andrew Dundas will be vying for state berths against players from tennis powers such as Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Greendale and Franklin.
