Man Accused of Stealing Pills From Greenfield Assisted Living Residents

Police say man stole from Golden Living nursing home, suffered apparent drug overdose

GREENFIELD — A 33-year-old Franklin man has been charged with theft and possession of narcotic drugs after police say he stole pills from residents at a Greenfield assisted living facility.

According to a criminal complaint released by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office Wednesday, officers responded to a residence in Franklin on March 26 on a report of a burglary.

When officers arrived, they observed a man reportedly passed out in his car and upon investigation, officers believed the man was suffering from a drug overdose, the complaint said.

Officers located 51 Oxycodone tablets as well as quantities of Alprazolam and Lorazepam totaling 59 pills and 215 empty pill packages in the car, according to the complaint.

Officers identified the man as a registered nurse at the Golden Living assisted living facility in Greenfield, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, the man told police he was aware of the pills recovered from his vehicle and that he got the recovered pills from the patients at his place of employment, Golden Living.

He acknowledged that the pills he took from work were, in fact, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, and Oxycodone. He took these from multiple patients and does not have a prescription for these medications. He wrapped the pills in paper towels so as to conceal them when he leaves work and that he knew the pills were not his property, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, Greenfield Police Officers interviewed an employee at Golden Living, who said there is a machine on site that packages and dispenses prescription medications. Each nurse has their own individual password to use when operating the dispenser.

The suspect, who has his initial appearance in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on May 4, did not have consent to take the medications, the complaint said.
