Man On Fentanyl Passes Out Behind Wheel With Woman, Baby: Cops

Police said a passenger had to take control of the wheel after her boyfriend passed out behind the wheel.

GREENFIELD, WI — Police in Greenfield say a man who passed out while behind the wheel with his girlfriend and daughter as passengers took Fentanyl, believing that it was actually Heroin.

According to Greenfield police reports, officers responded to the intersection of W. Loomis Road and W. Bartel Drive just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 on a report of a 28-year-old man - later identified as Jacob Bednarz - passed out and not breathing inside a car.

Reports indicated that the car was occupied by his girlfriend and 15-month-old daughter. Police learned that Bednarz was driving on W. Loomis Road when he began swerving and lost consciousness. His girlfriend had to take control of the wheel from the passenger seat and tell her boyfriend to hit the brakes in order to stop the car to avoid hitting other motorists.

Police say that Bednarz was revived by Greenfield first responders and was able to talk with officers once revived. He told police that he ingested what he thought was heroin. He turned over the remaining substance he had to police. When police tested the substance, they learned it was Fentanyl - a considerably more potent and dangerous narcotic.

According to reports, Bednarz was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment before he was driven to the Milwaukee County Jail for confinement.

He has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of narcotics and neglecting a child. He out on bond from the Milwaukee County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.
