Man At Greenfield Soccer Fight Flees Police At 100 MPH

A man involved in an apparent soccer fight at Zablocki Park who fled police at more than 100 miles per hour thought he got away.

GREENFIELD, WI — A man involved in an apparent soccer fight at Zablocki Park who fled police at more than 100 miles per hour thought he got away - until an officer showed up at his front door later that evening.

On June 30, 2017, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Greenfield police were dispatched to an apparent soccer fight in progress at Zablocki Park 3717 West Howard Ave.

Upon arrival, Greenfield police observed a man later identified as Angel Monge-Mathuzima running through the parking lot. Several women wearing soccer uniforms pointed to Monge-Mathuzima. He then entered a Honda Civic parked in the lot, according to his criminal complaint.

Greenfield police then activated their squad's emergency lights in an attempt to stop the Civic driven by Monge-Mathuzima. The Civic then exited the parking lot going through the stop sign, police reported.

The Civic then accelerated at a high rate of speed with police in pursuit. The pursuit continued on Howard at speeds in excess of 95 miles per hour. Police in pursuit noted they were chasing him at 104 miles per hour, however, the Civic still pulled away, according to his criminal complaint.

Police said that at 60th and Howard, they terminated their pursuit due to the high speeds.

Greenfield police observed the Civic go through the red light at Howard and nearly strike several cars. Police ran the plate for the fleeing vehicle and observed that Monge-Mathuzimawas the same individual he saw enter the Civic and flee from his squad, according to his criminal complaint.

Police went to his listed address and spoke to Monge-Mathuzima, who agreed to come out of the house. Police observed the clothes he was wearing at the park on the floor right inside the front door, police reported.

According to his criminal complaint, while transporting Monge-Mathuzima, he made several statements, “I’m so sorry sir for wasting your time and putting this [situation] on you,” “were you the one who chased me?” “I saw you guys and I was like I’m [definitely] out of here.”

He has been charged with fleeing or eluding an officer and faces up to 18 months behind bars. He was held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $2,500 signature bond.

The total pursuit was 1.3 miles.
