Patch Picks: Summer Camps

The lazy days of summer are right around the corner.

With the beginning of winter’s dissipation, we look onward to this summer’s events and programs. Filling the long summer days can be a tedious and daunting task, so we at Patch have selected our top choices for summer camps. Featuring activities for your youngsters and teenagers, Milwaukee is packed with summer fun!

Artist and Display: For your right-brained children, this week-long, 2-hour class encourage children to paint, draw, use charcoal, ink and pastels as well as teaches the techniques of printmaking and collages.

Milwaukee Montessori School: This flexible day camp allows parents to rest easy while at work knowing their children have active days pre-planned for them. The sessions include exposure to art, cooking and science classes as well as a variety of field trips around the Milwaukee area.

Location: 345 N. 95th Street

Recommended Age: 3 to 14

Dates: June 20 to Aug. 12

MSOE Summer Program: Dedicated to high school-aged children hoping to explore a potential academic and professional career in engineering, business or nursing, this program gives aspiring students a forum to imagine their futures.  Students work in the university’s technology laboratories, explore local businesses and meet with industry professionals.

Location: Campus of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE)

Recommended Age: Grades 9 to 11

Dates: July 11-16, July 18-23, July 25-30

Oceans of Fun: Milwaukee’s only marine mammal camp! This five-day educational program focuses on underwater marine life. Children learn the animal characteristics, training techniques and environmental practices associated with marine biology.

Location: 10001 W. Bluemound Rd.

Recommended Ages: 7 to 12

Dates: June 20 to Aug. 26

YMCA Camp Minikani: Based in the Kettle Moraine forest, this traditional summer camp has been running for more than 91 years. The program offers an overnight, equestrian and day-camp options all of which allow kids to swim, canoe, sail, wall climb, hike and explore other outdoor activities.

Recommended Ages: 6 to 17

Dates: Mid June to late August
