Prince Uncovered: A reinterpretation of the music of Prince

Milwaukee-based band Hello Death pulls together local artists to reimagine the music of Prince

Alverno Presents is continuing its series of performances that reimagine the work of a particular artist. This time it’s commissioning the Milwaukee-based band Hello Death to curate Prince Uncovered, a one-of-a-kind, one-night-only collaboration between a diverse company of local artists to respond to and reimagine the music of the legendary Prince. The performance takes place Saturday, October 17, at 8:00 p.m. at Alverno College’s Pitman Theatre.

Previous concerts in this series include Beautiful Dreamer: The Foster Project (curated by Ryan Schleicher), Unlooped Vs. Marvin Gaye (curated by Tarik Moody), Smith Uncovered: a reinterpretation of the songs of Patti Smith (curated by Betty Strigens) and Jones Uncovered: A Reinterpretation of the music of Quincy Jones (curated by DJ Jordan “Madhatter” Lee). The format – a smart, passionate and uber-connected curator assembles an A-team of Milwaukee’s best musicians to explore the music of an important American composer. In each show, the musicians don’t simply perform covers, rather, the artists “uncover” each song, examining the meaning and beauty through thoughtful reinterpretation.

Prince, born Prince Roger Nelson, is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor who hails from Minneapolis. A prominent figure in popular music for over thirty years, Prince’s music combines rock, R&B, soul, funk, hip hop, disco, psychedelia, jazz and pop. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. He has won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
