Public Hearing on Ridge Community Church Approaching
The Common Council will decide if it will rezone land from residential to institutional and make way for a church on Layton Avenue.

The development of a new church on Layton Avenue largely depends on whether or not the city agrees to rezone residential land to make way for the 23,000-square-foot institution.
That will be decided Tuesday after a public hearing on the matter at the at .
The Ridge Community Church, which operates out of , has been interested in the 12-acre parcel in the 9500/9700 block of Layton Avenue for several months. Church representatives to the cityβs planning commission, making design and cosmetic changes along the way per the commissionβs request.

The churchβs final plans have not yet been approved by the commission, but rezoning the land would be a good indicator that would happen in time.

Also at the meeting, the city is expected to adopt a resolution prohibiting the sale of liquors over 160 proof.
The resolution comes just months after Greenfield resident after consuming a punch made with Everclear, a 190-proof grain alcohol, Red Bull and Gatorade.
The city has no legal power to ban the high-proof alcohol from being sold in the city, but the resolution βrequests of its state representative and the legislature to enact a law prohibiting and banning the sale of high grain alcohol in this state that is 160 proof and higher.β
Other agenda items include the approval of the , set the salaries and benefits of the city attorney and city prosecutor and adopting an ordinance that gives newly created the authority to enforce violations of the municipal code.
