Rain Only Delays a Pair of Greenfield Victories

The Hawks won two make-up games Friday and Saturday to stay in second place in the Woodland Conference.

The Greenfield baseball team made the most of its opportunities late last week, when it finally got them.

After getting rained out Tuesday and Thursday, the Hustlin' Hawks defeated Pewaukee, 11-0, and Greendale, 3-2, Friday and Saturday at home to improve to 12-6 overall and remain in the thick of the Woodland Conference race at 6-2.

Only New Berlin Eisenhower (7-0) is ahead of Greenfield.

"We started the game a little too aggressively at the plate, but in the third inning, we made some adjustment and became more patient at the plate and it paid off," Greenfield coach Lee Kleszczynski said.

On Saturday, Greenfield needed eight innings to down rival Greendale.

In the bottom of the eighth, Korben Biersack hit a one-out single, stole second, and then scored on Nick Jablonski's double off the left-field wall to snap a 2-2 tie.

Nate Rios pitched a complete game for the Hawks, allowing four hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts.

"This was a well-played game by both teams," Kleszczynski said. "Both pitchers threw strikes and hit good spots in the strike zone."

Greenfield will play Wauwatosa West at 5 p.m. .
