Here's when Milwaukee's first cat cafe, where customers can enjoy a coffee shop experience while mingling with adoptable cats, is opening.

MILWAUKEE, WI β Milwaukee's first cat cafe, Sip and Purr Cat Cafe, has announced its grand opening date.
Katy McHugh, owner and founder of Sip and Purr, hosted a Facebook Live announcement at 10 a.m. Tuesday to announce that the cafe will open on June 1 from noon to 6 p.m. You can make reservations online here: http://www.sipandpurr.com for your time in the cat lounge.
The cafe will feature an individual cafe space and a cat lounge that is divided by a set of double doors. McHugh said the lounge will feature about 15 to 20 cats that are all adoptable out of the Lakeland Animal Shelter.

Katy McHugh, owner and founder of Sip and Purr said they signed a lease with New Land Enterprises at 2021 E. Ivanhoe Place on Milwaukee's East Side for their cafe.
"We couldn't have picked a better spot for Sip & Purr," says Katy McHugh, owner and founder. "Our guests can stroll down Black Cat Alley, stop into our cafΓ© for a drink and a small bite to eat, and visit with our adoptable cats free-roaming in the Cat Lounge ....it doesn't get much better than that."

Cat cafΓ©s are a growing trend across the U.S., are a unique way for customers to enjoy a cup of coffee or snack while decompressing with a furry friend. Potential adopters can interact with our cats in a relaxing environment and visualize how that cat will fit in at their home. The Cat Lounge at Sip & Purr is also a neighborhood cat adoption center conveniently located on the East Side, close to Downtown and the North Shore areas.
Tim Gokhman, of New Land Enterprises, says this neighborhood development, while expected, is happening quicker than anticipated. "We always knew this neighborhood was yearning for more β we have such an incredibly diverse and strong consumer base around here. Families, students, young professionals, empty nesters. But the strength and mix of new businesses coming in to snap up the available storefronts has been amazing."
All of Cat Cafe's cats will arrive from partner Lakeland Animal Shelter, fully vetted and ready for new homes.
"There's a lot of untapped potential to get these cats adopted into loving homes, and that's exactly what we're setting out to do," McHugh said. "Providing the adoptable cats with a stress-free, cage-less living area from the get-go really helps their personalities shine through, ultimately resulting in more adoptions."
Sip & Purr also will be the first in Milwaukee to use Ruby Coffee Roasters, of Nelsonville, Wis.
