Ten Wisconsin High School Seniors Win BBB Foundation's "Student of Integrity" Scholarship

The winners are (in alphabetical order): Henry Biznek of Kohler High School; Mackenzie Christman of Oconomowoc High School; Alyssa Heminger of Franklin High School, Brent Hoffmann of Ashwaubenon High School; Carley Krull of Lake Mills High School; Cole Nelson of Oostberg High School; Alexandra Paleka of Catholic Central High School; Emily Way of Eau Claire Memorial High School; Ethan Weber of New Holstein High School; and Madison Zepnick of Oconomowoc High School.

Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship to attend an accredited college of their choice.

The Student of Integrity Scholarship is intended to give high school seniors who have demonstrated character, leadership, and ethical values the opportunity to continue his or her education beyond high school at an accredited college. It is sponsored by the BBB Wisconsin Foundation and Wisconsin BBB Accredited Business companies and individual supporters of the Foundation.

The students were chosen out of more than 400 applicants throughout Wisconsin. To earn the scholarship, students must be a high school senior with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 – among other requirements. They’re requested to write a short essay describing how they build character in themselves and in others, and how they will build character in the future. The essay is critical and must emphasize overcoming obstacles and demonstrating ethical leadership at a young age. Community involvement, volunteer activities, awards and honors, are all considered by a panel of 10 judges.

“We received hundreds of applications from outstanding candidates, making it a challenge to choose just ten,” said Ran Hoth, BBB Serving Wisconsin CEO/president. “Each of these winners has an impressive academic and community service record, and has already made a positive impact on their communities. Their futures are bright and they are on the way to becoming future ethical leaders.”

The 2016 scholarships are sponsored with gifts from BBB of Wisconsin Foundation, Baird, Brewers Community Foundation, Briggs & Stratton, Dave Jones, Inc., Horizons Law Group, LLC, We Energies Foundation, Roger and Shirley Schroeder, with additional contributions from Robert Bradley, Donna Conant, Paul Sara, and William D. Goodman.

The BBB of Wisconsin Foundation has given scholarship gifts to students totaling more than $100,000 since 2010.
