Thanksgiving 2018: What's Open, What's Closed In Metro Milwaukee

Check out which retailers, restaurants, and government services will be open and closed in metro Milwaukee over the Thanksgiving weekend.

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Milwaukee City government offices are closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. City offices will resume regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 26.

Garbage and recycling – There will be no Milwaukee garbage or recycling pick-up on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23.

Metered parking –Rates vary from $0.50/hour to $1.50/hour depending upon location. Always read the information on the meter or payment center to ensure you don't run out of time.

No payment required on Saturdays in some areas Downtown and in the 3rd Ward, however parking restrictions do apply. Always read the posted parking sign to ensure you are in compliance.

No payment required nor any restrictions are enforced at metered space on Sundays and on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Federal offices: Federal government offices are closed.

National parks: The National Park Service will be closed.

Courts: Courts will be closed.

911 and emergency services – The holiday weekend does not affect Milwaukee police and fire emergency services.

Here's a look at which institutions, businesses, and restaurants will be available on Thanksgiving and Black Friday this year:

  • Schools: Milwaukee-area public schools are closed Nov. 22 through Nov. 23
  • 2018-19 Wisconsin School Thanksgiving Break Dates, Details
  • Milwaukee Public Libraries: All branches will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and most open for regular hours on Friday.
  • Postal Service: Post offices will be closed for Thanksgiving but open on Black Friday. Mail pickup and delivery are on normal schedules Friday.
  • Banks: Most banks will be closed for Thanksgiving, but the majority of banks — such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citibank — will be open on Black Friday.

Metro Transit
