Traffic Stop Gone Wrong: Woman Rams Squad Car, Injures Two Deputies

Driver of the vehicle had been pulled over for speeding, but now could face up to 45 years in prison.

GREENFIELD – Police arrested a 23-year-old Milwaukee woman after she reportedly rammed a Milwaukee County Sheriff's squad car, struck and threw two deputies into traffic and injured her passenger during a traffic stop on I-43 on Sunday.

Kelvina Freeman, 23, Milwaukee, faces potential charges of three counts of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, Resisting or Obstructing Officer, and Criminal Damage to Property. If convicted of all counts, she faces up to 45 years in prison.

Just after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, a deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on I-43 eastbound at W. Loomis Road. The driver’s license was suspended and the deputy called for a tow.

When the tow truck arrived, the passenger got out, but the driver threw the car in reverse - sending the passenger into the distress lane wall, and dragging and throwing both deputies into a lane of traffic, before slamming into the squad and fleeing.

Both deputies sustained injuries, and narrowly missed being struck by oncoming traffic. The passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman had provided false identification, and the passenger refused to identify her. Sheriff’s detectives investigated and arrested Kelvina D. Freeman, age 23, of Milwaukee, on Wednesday, May 18.
