WEATHER ALERT: Rain, Sleet and Snow ... All This Evening

WISCONSIN — The National Weather Service is cautioning drivers as a wintry mix of bad weather including freezing rain, sleet and snow moves into the area late this afternoon and evening.

National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook:

Freezing rain, sleet and snow are expected through the evening. In the Milwaukee area and near the Illinois border the precipitation will begin as all rain and then transition to freezing rain around 6 or 7 pm as temperatures drop below freezing.

Ice accumulations of less than one tenth of an inch are forecast over much of southern Wisconsin. Snow and sleet accumulation will be less than an inch north and west of the Milwaukee area. Freezing drizzle looks more probable during the
Late evening towards the midnight hour.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect from 5 pm Wednesday afternoon to midnight CST tonight.

* timing...Expect a wintry mix including light freezing rain to develop after sunset and then diminish around midnight.

* ice accumulations...Total ice accumulations of a glaze to one-tenth of an inch are expected.

* impacts...The ice will result in very slippery conditions on sidewalks...Roads and bridges...Possibly impacting the later portions of the evening commute.
