The Common Council voted to reconsider a decision made last month that denied Jeff Kohl a special use permit to open a banquet hall adjacent to his wedding chapel.

A Greenfield business owner’s hopes to expand his wedding chapel business to include a banquet hall will get a second look from the city next month.

On Tuesday, the Common Council voted 4-1 in favor of reconsidering its decision made at a meeting Feb. 22 to deny Jeff Kohl of a special use permit to open a private banquet room and serve alcohol products in the existing space in the same building.

At the Feb. 22 meeting, left by Kohl’s wedding chapel customers, and felt adding a banquet hall for approximately 50 people would only exacerbate those problems.

The city’s alderpersons voted 4-1 to deny the request. But Tuesday, Alderperson Linda Lubotsky, who cast the lone vote in favor of the request last month, said there have been discussions with Kohl and city staff that could be stepping-stones to Kohl alleviating neighbors concerns.

Lubotsky said Kohl hoped to have a neighborhood meeting to address concerns, and was open to changing the requested closing time of midnight to 10 p.m.
