Whitnall School Board Forms Facilities Advisory Committee

The committee, made up of 20 community members, will review options and identify solutions that address facility needs.

The Whitnall School Board has formed an advisory committee charged with reviewing options and identifying solutions that solve in a fiscally responsible way the facility needs identified in the two April 2015 referendum questions.

Of the more than 40 applicants, 20 members representing diverse skills, experiences and geographic locations were selected to serve on the committee. Jeanne Rupel, a retired engineer and project manager from MillerCoors, will chair the committee and Gar Kronhelm, a retired electrical engineer from Rockwell Automation, will serve as vice chair.

Other committee members are Pamela Carlson, Joan Hanson, Steven Hill, Ted Juerisson, Karl Kastner, Zoran Krecak, Dale Kuehn, Sherry Landowski-Henning, Christina Lucchesi, Kelly Lynch, Nicolas Olson, Marty Ordinans, Barbara Potts, Jean Rosenwald, Donald Schwartz, Chandramohan Shanmugam, Bernard Shaw and Eileen Valaitis.

“We have a great mix of candidates that we’re very excited about,” said LuAnn Bird, school board president. “This process has shown there are a lot of people who care deeply about our schools and are willing to engage in finding facility solutions that the community can support.”

The committee will meet at least once a month beginning in August and will complete its work within one year. Meetings will be open to the public and all Whitnall community members are invited to attend. Agendas and minutes will be posted on the school district website - www.whitnall.com.

The first meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Community Board Room, 5000 S. 116th St. The meeting will include a tour of the Whitnall High School pool and other areas of the building. The second meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Hales Corners Elementary and will include a tour of that facility.

“We greatly appreciate all the applicants’ willingness to volunteer their time, energy and knowledge to find creative, educationally sound solutions that maintain high quality schools in the Whitnall School District,” Bird said. “And we hope those who were not selected and other interested community members continue to stay involved.”
