Whiz Kids: Whitnall's Stair Climbers

Four students and a teacher helped raise more than $700 for the American Lung Association.

  • Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: These four students, along with Whitnall Middle School teacher and team captain , participated in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Stair Climb in downtown Milwaukee on March.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: The team raced up 47 floors and 1,034 steps . Bell finished in 8 minutes, 34 seconds, fourth in his age bracket and 60th out of 1,268 participants. Meyers finished in 10:44, Falk in 14:05, Seavert in 14:52 and Nasby in 15:50. Donovan Bemke and Cisco Perez, both seventh-graders at Whitnall Middle School, were not available for the stair climb, but still helped raise money as part of the team. Collectively, the team raised more than $700 to benefit the American Lung Association. As a result of meeting their goal of $700, the team gets to duct tape Seavert to the cafeteria wall Thursday during lunch. Each dollar raised was worth foot-long piece of tape.
