Whiz Kids: Zachary Brockdorf

Brockdorf and his World Affairs classmates participated in a Model United Nations statewide event March 21-22.

  • Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: Brockdorf and his classmates in a World Affairs class taught by Melinda Redlinger participated in the 42nd Annual Wisconsin High Schools Model United Nations March 21-22 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Brockdorf earned an award for Outstanding Research Paper for his work on “Terrorism and the Availability of Chemical Weapons." The other students who participated in the Model UN program were: Dalton Andrew, Matthew Brokob, Kayla Derrick, Jasmine Farrell, Sean Gacek, Mariah Haasch, Katie Haberman, Adeeb Jaber, Brianna Jicha, Jason Katrichis, Elizabeth Konieczny, Anjali Mahay, Guetzie Maya, Alyssa McCann, Francesca Nobile, Carlos Orozco, Katie Schahczinski, Samantha Schmid, Benjamin Torkilson and Eric Tulod. Their goal was to create a resolution at the Model UN that could get passed in the general assembly. They had to work with students from other schools, representing different nations and role play the positions of their governments to support or oppose various ideas. GHS represented Angola, Belgium, and El Salvador, and according to Redlinger, "The students all did a wonderful job writing resolutions to world issues and then debating the resolutions in a mock general assembly."
