Chef John Schiltz wins Chef of the Year Award
Canvas Health’s Valley Vine & Harvest Throwdown raised over $68,000
Lake Elmo, MN November 1st, 2012: Canvas Health (formally HSI) today announced that Chef John Schiltz of the Lake Elmo Inn and Event Center won the coveted Chef of the Year award during the agency’s Valley Vine & Harvest Throwdown fundraising event. Chef John’s potato crusted sunfish with asparagus risotto, accompanied by micro greens with lemon vinaigrette was a favorite amoung attendees.

Over 300+ guests voted for the 2012 Chef of the Year award, sampled the gourmet cuisine prepared by seven local chefs, and wine pairings selected by local wine Ambassor Andy Kass. The other participating restaurants included: Domacin Wine Bar, Luna Rossa Wine Bar, Marx Fusion Bistro, Phil’s Tara Hideaway, San Pedro Café, and Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque.
Local celebrities Karin and Phil Housley were the honorary chairs of this wine and dine event, which rose over $68,000 to support services and programs of Canvas Health. The 2012 Valley Vine & Harvest Throwdown sponsors included: Ahola Mack & Associates, Andersen Corporation, Associated Bank, Berwald Roofing and Sheet Metal, Eckberg Lammers, Imation, Karin Housley Homes, Lake Elmo Bank, Marketing Incentive Resources, Mercury Investment Company, Rivertown Inn, Thrivent.

Canvas Health is dedicated to bringing hope, healing and recovery to people’s lives. Each year Canvas Health programs serve more than 8,500 children, adolescents, adults and elderly challenged with debilitating aspects of mental illness, chemical misuse, aging, or physical and sexual abuse. Additional Canvas Health programs and services include: Crisis Connection; utilizing both volunteers and staff, who answer 44,000 crisis calls annually, a safe transportation program completing 40,000 rides annually, assistance of housing, employment and referrals to over 530 homeless youth, and anti-bullying educated to over 9,000 Washington County students. Proceeds from the Valley Vine & Harvest Throwdown benefit a palette of Canvas Health programs and services. ###
