At Mall of America, 'Clouds' Choir 3,500 Strong Will Sing Zach Sobiech's Song

Event at Nordstrom Court rotunda is Thursday at 6 p.m., part of the KS95 for Kids Radiothon.

The rotunda at Mall of America'sΒ Nordstrom Court will ring out Thursday with a choir of more than 3,500 singing Clouds by Zach Sobiech, theΒ Stillwater AreaΒ High SchoolΒ student from LakelandΒ whoΒ died of cancer last May.Β

It's part of theΒ KS95 for Kids Radiothon on Thursday and Friday, an event that raises money forΒ the Children’s Cancer Research Fund and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare.Β

"They were hoping to get a thousand people,"Β CloudsΒ producer Andy Demer told KSTP-TV. "They are up to well over 3,500 people that have registered and theyΒ have actually had toΒ close registration because ofΒ mall capacity,"

Laura Sobiech, Zach's mother, said the choir concert will commemorate the release of the song, which happened at last year'sΒ Radiothon.Β "We were thrilled last year just to have it played on the radio locally," she recalled on KSTP.Β

Among the singers will be 100 students fromΒ Skyview Middle SchoolΒ in Oakdale. Skyview choir director Melanie Tlusty said it's "a way that they can contribute with their voices, and that's something that is important," according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.Β

Note: The KSTP-TV video above showsΒ a time for the eventΒ of 5:30 a.m., but the official start time is 6 p.m. (in the evening).Β
