Bang! Bang! St. Croix Crossing Pile Driving Could Get Noisy
The pile driving isn't allowed between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. or on Sundays.
Neighbors "may hear repeated banging noises and feel vibrations" as work begins this month on the superstructure for the new St. Croix Crossing bridge, the Minnesota Department of Transportation warned in a news release Thursday.
The banging will come from equipment driving piles for seven bridge piers on land on the Minnesota side. The piers will support the Highway 36 approach bridge and ramp bridges that link to the main river span.
MnDOT required that the pile driving be limited to winter months when windows are closed at nearby homes. The work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Earlier this week, MnDOT and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation approved a $332.5 million contract with Lunda/Ames Joint Venture to build the superstructure.
