Bang! Bang! St. Croix Crossing Pile Driving Could Get Noisy

The pile driving isn't allowed between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. or on Sundays.

Neighbors "may hear repeated banging noises and feel vibrations" as work begins this monthΒ on the superstructure for the new St. Croix Crossing bridge, the Minnesota Department of TransportationΒ warned in a news releaseΒ Thursday.Β

The banging will come from equipment driving piles for sevenΒ bridge piers on land onΒ the Minnesota side. The piers willΒ support the Highway 36 approach bridge and ramp bridges that linkΒ to the main river span.

MnDOT required thatΒ the pile driving be limited toΒ winter months when windows are closed at nearby homes. The work may take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.Β

Earlier this week,Β MnDOT and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation approved aΒ $332.5 million contract withΒ Lunda/Ames Joint Venture to build the superstructure.Β
