Citizen's Police Academy: Don't Miss Your Chance to Drive a Squad Car and Use a Taser

The Fifth Citizen's Police Academy to begin on Sept. 13. Students will have the opportunity to drive a squad car, use handcuff and a taser, conduct field sobriety tests, and much more.

The is currently taking applications for its fall Citizen's Police Academy, which will run from Tuesday, Sept. 13, through Nov. 8, 2011.

This nine week course will meet on Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. and will cover a variety of topics. Students will have the opportunity to drive a squad car during an emergency, learn how to handcuff a suspect and use a taser, conduct field sobriety tests on a DWI stop, face deadly force decisions during shoot don't shoot scenarios, and much more. 

This will be the department's fifth academy class, which started in the spring of 2009. The purpose of the academy is to allow an everyday citizen the opportunity to see what it would be like or what it takes to be a police officer. It also gives the participant a chance to see how their local police department operates and to interact with its personnel.

Too many times the only contact citizen's have with their police department is during a stressful or unpleasant time, which often leaves the person with a bad impression of the officer and or the department.  So if you are interested in seeing a glimpse of what it would be like to be a police officer, please sign up to attend this academy.  You will not be disappointed.
