Hello wine lovers and yet to become wine lovers, welcome to my world of wine! My name is Jana and I currently own the in downtown Hudson, (along with my wonderful husband, terrific sons, awesome daughter-in-law and the grandson that the world revolves around!). Sorry had to add that so they would give me time off to do this writing!
This blog for Patch will be my chance to show off some of the interesting and intriguing aspects of wine, without getting boring or snooty! I want everyone to learn to love wine as much as I do—hopefully I don’t sound too crazy, but I love everything about wine!
This weekend I was asked in the restaurant, "Why do you love wine so much?" My answer came very quickly to me, "It is so much fun!" They seemed OK with the answer, but as I thought about it later, I found myself asking the same question. So here is why I love wine so much.

Grapes and my former first grade students are very similar. Every year I would teach the students the same topic, and each one of them took away something different from it and grew. The same applies to wine. Each grape starts in the same place, but where it is grown gives it so many variables that you don’t know what that grape is doing until it is bottled! I compare wine to my former students. I love to see them change and grow! To see the wine become a luscious red or a delightful white is so much fun!
It is always a surprise when you open a bottle. You never know what your buds will taste until you pop that cork! Each bottle will be a little different. Some will not be up to your expectations, and others will knock your socks off. Believe me, if you have had that knock-your-socks-off experience, you will drink wine just to find it again!

There are so, so, so many wines in the world. I can drink a different wine every day for the next 20 years and never drink the same wine at all! Isn’t that cool? What other thing could you do every day and never repeat the same thing again. I love that it will always be a new experience for me!
When I share the wine, everyone enjoys it! I love sitting around with friends, old and new, to share a bottle of wine. We seem to always leave with good memories and smiles on our faces! What could be more fun than that?
That being said, here is my hope for this blog:
- Help you find a wine that knocks your socks off
- Help you find the fun in wine
- Help you understand the language of wine
- Help you find places to visit to drink great wine
- Help you realize you don’t have to speak French to drink a great bottle of French wine (or Spanish, or German, or Italian, or any other language)
