Victim Identified in Highway 63 Crash; 74-Year-Old Sustained Life-Threatening Injuries
Police say a southbound Chevrolet Impala lost control on US 63 and crossed into the northbound lane where it was struck by a truck.
PIERCE COUNTY, WI -- The driver of a vehicle was transported via Flight for Life with life-threatening injuries Wednesday after police say the driver lost control of their vehicle on US 63 at 690th Street in Pierce County.
According to officials, on Wednesday January 11, at approximately 12:43 p.m., the Wisconsin State Patrol received a report of a two-vehicle crash with injury and road blockage on US 63 at 690th Street in Pierce County.
Police say a southbound Chevrolet Impala lost control on US 63 and crossed into the northbound lane where it was struck by a GMC Sierra pick-up truck and trailer.

Authorities have released the names of the people involved in the accident, and have identified 74-year-old Charles Metelka of Menomonie, WI as the driver of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala, and Kathleen Metelka, 73, as the passenger.

Charles Metelka suffered life-threatening injuries and Kathleen Metelka's injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
The driver of the 2016 GMC Sieraa pickup was identified as Steven Grove, a 55-year-old man from New Hampton, IA and passenger Denise Grove, 51, aslo of New Hampton, IA.
Police say Charles Metelka suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted from the scene. The passenger of that vehicle was transported by ambulance with minor injuries. The occupants of the GMC pick-up had non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
