Tara Kelly, Director of Ecological Restoration for the Belwin Conservancy, will speak at the Hudson Area Library on Tuesday, January 24th, at 6:30 PM. Her topic is "The Belwin Conservancy: Connecting the People to the Land." The Belwin Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and appreciation of our natural world.
Belwin Conservancy currently owns more than 1,300 acres in Afton and West Lakeland Township in Minnesota, comprising one of the largest privately owned nature preserves in the area. Its restoration of the native prairie and woodlands serves as a model for ecological restoration in the St. Croix Valley. Its prairies are some of the oldest restored prairies in the area. The recent reintroduction of bison to Belwin Conservancy's land offers a unique opportunity for visitors to see a living example of prehistoric Minnesota. Six animal species and three plant species considered rare by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources thrive on Belwin Conservancy land. Belwin Conservancy's aggressive restoration strategy serves as a model for modern, economically sustainable land use.
Admission to this program is free, but seating is limited to 50. To reserve a seat, call the Library (715-386-3101) or stop at the circulation desk.
