For Equal Pay Day, New Data Show Unequal Wages Hurt the State's Women and Families

Find out what's happening in Hudsonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

New data released for Equal Pay Day tomorrow reveal the significant costs of Wisconsin's gender-based wage gap. Women in Wisconsin are paid just 78 cents for every dollar paid to men, amounting to a yearly gap in wages of $10,033. African American women and Latinas in Wisconsin fare worse, being paid $15,596 and $19,721 less than all men in the state, respectively. With more than 231,700 Wisconsin households headed by women, the new data show that these gaps harm both families and the state economy.

The analysis was conducted by the National Partnership for Women & Families. The full report on the wage gap in Wisconsin, which ranks 24 among the 50 states, can be found here.
