The sheriff's office inΒ Minnesota'sΒ Hennepin County is providing advice to parents regarding drug use among young peopleβ€”a problem that Hudson too is facing.Β

Prevention experts will provide parents with simple, practical techniques to help kids make healthy choices and avoid substance abuse from 6:30-8Β p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The event will take place at theΒ Fellowship Hall atΒ Lord of Life Lutheran ChurchΒ (7401 County RoadΒ 101 inΒ Maple Grove, MN).Β The Hennepin County Sheriff’s OfficeΒ and the Partnership for Change will provide informative speakers during the event.

TheΒ Scheig family of Maple Grove will share their story, after recently losing their son, Andrew, to a heroin overdose. Parents and community members are encouraged to bring any unwanted or expired medications to the event. All prescription drugs collected will be properly disposed of by the Sheriff’s Office.

Tragically, 2013 has set a disturbing new record. There have been 43 heroin related overdose deaths through the end of October in Hennepin County– the highest total ever.
