Hudson City Council to Provide Library Funding Updates

Library funding updates are to be discussed at the city council meeting on Wednesday, May 30th. Funding options involve discontinuing the joint library agreement and change to be a municipal library.

Taxpayers will be subject to both the City levy for the Library services and the County library levy unless a form of legislative action is taken. The St. Croix County library levy is calculated to be about $256,500. Additional funding will be needed for the library in 2013 to be exempt from the county levy.

The amount of additional city funding will vary based on whether the library remains a joint library and the percentage of the cost the library is reimbursed for circulation to residents who participate. These variables are shown based on the library Steering Committee recommendation that the joint library be disbanded and operated as a city library and the County reimbursing the library at 100% of the cost, which exceeds the 70% state minimum.
