UPDATE: Teachers Union Rejects School District's Counter Offer; Collective Bargaining Law Published

The Hudson Unit of the West Central Education Association teachers union voted to reject the Hudson School District's Contract Proposal as Time Runs Out and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's Collective Bargaining Law is Published.

Update (5:45 p.m., March 25, 2011): The Hudson Unit of the West Central Education Association teachers union voted 181-82 to reject the Hudson School District's contract proposal on Friday afternoon. 

The Hudson School District Board of Education held a special meeting that started at 5 p.m., and went into recess twice before union rep Scott Ellingson informed the board of the union's vote.

At 5:35 p.m., the board returned from recess and adjourned the meeting.

As it turned out, today's meeting was the last chance the union had at having a new contract in place before Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining law takes effect. Despite being under a restaining order, the law was published today and will take effect on Saturday.

Update (1:50 a.m., March 25, 2011): The Hudson School District has updated its website with a notification of a special Board of Education meeting to be held at 5 p.m. today in the Media Room at Hudson Prairie Elementary School.

The only item on the meeting agenda is to "consider ratification of a 2011-12 agreement between the West Central Education Association (WCEA) teachers union and the School District of Hudson." No public comments will be heard during the special meeting.

Update (7:35 p.m., March 24, 2011): Scott Ellingson, leader of the Hudson Unit of the West Central Education Association, said the union has not yet accepted the school district's counter offer and the body intends to negotiate further into the evening behind closed doors.

The Hudson School District Board of Education will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the library to present its labor contract counter offer to the Hudson Unit of the  West Central Education Association (WCEA) union.

The board didn't accept the union's initial offer at a special meeting on Tuesday, but did vote to offer a counter proposal.

Scott Ellingson, a  teacher and the leader of WCEA's Hudson Unit was disheartened that the board didn't accept the union offer on Tuesday, but was hopeful that an acceptable counter offer would come before Friday.

The union wants to work quickly to get a new deal in place before Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining law can take effect. The law .
