For the first time in weeks it did not rain or snow on the Hudson varsity lacrosse game, and the Raiders beat the Mankato Outlaws 21-2 at Mankato East High School this past Sunday.
Senior McKay Potter started the game with two quick goals after winning the face-offs. Sophomores Will Reece and Brady Minich each scored before Potter completed a hat trick off an assist from Sophomore Trevor Quade. Senior Tanner Hanson netted a backhanded shot while facing away from the goal, Quade ripped a shot in from outside, and Reece scored again for a Hudson lead of 8-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Hudson added five more goals with three from Junior Adam Lipps, one from Sophomore Carter Schuett and another by Quade. Mankato scored its first goal on a deflection off of Hudson’s goalie to make the score 13-1. Lipps scored two more goals to lead 15-1. After having several good shots on goal stopped, Senior Drew Fleming dribbled in the ball for a goal to end the half with Hudson up 16-1.
In last year’s penalty-ridden game against Hudson, a Mankato player had to be subdued by a ref and was ejected for fighting, and the Hudson coaches were determined to prevent a repeat. While Mankato again showed their frustration through trash-talk and chippy play, Hudson Head Coach Rich Grinstead urged his squad not to react in kind but to just play their game and let the score do the talking. The boys responded admirably with a well-played and sportsmanlike game, not responding to Mankato’s taunts.

Hudson Senior Jordan Madden handed off the goalie stick to his younger brother 8th-grader Parker Madden who was in the net for the second half. Lipps and Reece each scored in the third quarter to bring the lead to 18-1. Mankato scored to start the fourth quarter at 18-2. Junior Alex Queener scored twice and Sophomore Stephen Tripicchio scored the last goal for a final score of 21-2.
