Why No Video on Patch?
Jon Wekkin of MSBN issued the following statement about Saturday's game:
As most of you are aware, our Hudson Raiders football team is having a truly remarkable season. I've had the true privilege of broadcasting all their games this season on our websiteΒ MNSportsNetwork.comΒ and also on Hudson Patch.
On Saturday, we will again be going on the road to Stevens Point toΒ bring you another playoff match up against a very good Appleton North team in the third round of the Division 1Β playoffs. Last week we ran a video broadcast of the game against Bay Port, a resounding Hudson victory, which was viewed by a very large audience from literally all over the country.
The WIAAΒ requires media apply forΒ a license (along with a payment of a fee)Β to run video forΒ playoff games, which we were granted for the Hudson/Bay Port playoffΒ broadcast. We had every intention of again running video this week for the Appleton North game, and I applied for the video broadcast rights on Monday morning. I was informed on Wednesday that, due to an exclusive video rights agreement with another media outlet, we would not be able to run video on our broadcast for this game.
IΒ am very disappointed in this decision by the WIAA, but we are obligated to abide by their rules.Β Last year a lawsuitΒ was filed against the WIAA byΒ Gannett Media over the rights forΒ video broadcasts of playoff games, so this issueΒ has been a controversial one that has even received some national attention.
Consequently, our broadcast on Saturday will be audio onlyΒ just as it was for the first playoff game against Eau Claire Memorial and the regular season game against Rice Lake back in September.Β I just wanted to set the record straight regarding this upcoming broadcast tomorrow as some viewers may be wondering why we won't be running video as we did last week.
If Hudson wins, we will again apply for the video rights for the next game and if we are granted that then we will again be running video.Β Thank you to all the great fans that have tuned in to our games all season, thanks to the Hudson Patch for carrying our broadcasts, and thanks to the players and coaches of this great Hudson Raiders football team for this memorable season.Β
LET'S TAKE THIS ALL THE WAY TO STATE!!!!!Β
