The 2022 Short Course Championship Season has concluded (Age Group State, Senior State, and NCSA Spring Championships) with only the Showcase Classic left for our 14&U swimmers in April.
The weekend of March 10-13 our Senior swimmers traveled to Minneapolis and the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center to compete in the 2022 MN Senior State Championships where as a group they raced to 55% (40) best times, finishing a 12th place team overall (out of 32 teams) and finishing 3rd in the AA Division. Notable swims included Team Records by Ellery Ottem in the 200/1000 Free; Rhian Neitzel in the 100/200 fly; Andrew Hanson in the 50/200 free and Theo Johansen in the 1000 free as well as the Men's 200 Free Relay (Taylor Matter, Luis Flores, Johansen, Hanson).
The following weekend (March 17-20) our 14&u swimmers travelled to Rochester for the 2022 MN 14&U State Championships. The team placed 11th in the overall team standings while taking the 1st place Team Banner for the AA Division. As a team the swimmers achieved 84% best times with notable swims that included Jacob Polasky’s State Champion swims in the 100 fly, 200/500 free which paved the way for his 9-10 High Point. His brother Jackson also stood atop the podium in the 100 IM and 50 free while Lillian Bystrzycki placed in the top 8 in 6 of 7 events (100 back, 50/100/200 free, 100 IM, 50 fly) and 11th in the 200 IM; Nate Caswell finished top 8 in 6 of 7 events as well (200/400 IM, 100/200 back, 100/200 breast); Aubrey Frey top 16 in the 50 back; Sophie Fritz top 16 in 4 events (100 fly, 200 free, 50 back, 50 fly) and top 8 in t 3 (500 free, 100 breast, 200 IM); Maggie McNamara placed in the top 16 in the 50 free; Bennett Rotramel top 8 finishes (100 back, 100 IM, 50/100 free, 50 fly, 200IM). The following Team Records were broken: 8&u Boys Jackson Polasky 200 free (2:35.41), 50 breast (42.91), 100 IM (1:19.44)
The week of March 14-20 6 Mako Aquatics National Team members travelled to Orlando, FL for the 2022 NCSA Spring Championships. Notable swims included a 6th place finish for Ellery Ottem in the 200 free, top 24 (scoring) finishes in the 100/500 free and top 40 (finals) finishes in the 100/200 fly and 50 free; an 11% time drop for Andrew Hanson in the 50 back along with top 40 (finals) finishes for Andrew Hanson in the 50/100/200/1650 free. The following Team Records were broken: 15-16 Women Ellery Ottem 500 free (4:55.13), 200 fly (2:02.23); 15-16 Men Andrew Hanson 100 free (45.71), 200 free (1:40.05), 500 free (4:39.32) 1000 (9:33.35), 1650 16:00.04); 17-18 Men Theo Johansen 200 free (1:44.25).
