Police Say Alcohol, Unfastened Seatbelts Both Factors in Fatal Accident Saturday

22-year-old New Richmond man died when he was ejected from vehicle in a crash on I-94, police say.

ST. CROIX COUNTY - Police say a 22-year-old New Richmond man is dead and two passengers were injured after the pickup truck they were driving in struck another vehicle Saturday evening on I-94.


According to authorities, Michael Thomas Doering was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene.


According to a report by the New Richmond News, Mahriyah Rae Mckenzie, the 23-year-old female passenger from Clear Lake, was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with life-threatening injuries. Lucas T. Pitzen, the second passenger in the pickup and a 24-year-old New Richmond man, was transported to Regions by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Doering, Pitzen and Mckenzie were not wearing seatbelts. A news release by the Wisconsin State Patrol stated alcohol was a factor in the accident.
