Hudson won its first playoff game decisively by beating Mankato 19 to 2. Nine different Hudson players contributed goals, and the offense was passing well, with 17 of the 19 goals coming off of assists.
The Raiders scored 9 unanswered goals in the first quarter. Mankato scored to start the second quarter, but then Hudson scored 3 to end the first half up 12 to 1.
In the third quarter Hudson scored 5 goals to the enthusiastic cheers of the Hudson boys U11 team, which stopped practice early to watch the varsity team. The Raiders led 17 to 1 after 3 quarters.
At the beginning of the 4th quarter, a Mankato player punched a Hudson player in the head several times before the referee was able to notice and blow his whistle. The Mankato player continued to punch the Raider who did not retaliate. The referee had to subdue and restrain the Mankato player who was removed from the game in the most dramatic penalty incident of the season.
When play resumed, Hudson scored one more goal to go up 18 to 1. Mankato scored one last goal before Hudson netted one more for a final score of 19 to 2.
Taren Motte had 6 goals and 3 assists, Adam Lipps had 3 goals and 1 assist, Brandon Schwartz had 2 goals and 4 assists, McKay Potter had 2 goals and 3 assists, Henrik Wiesemeyer had 2 of each, Joey Hernandez and Will Reece both had 1 and 1, Leo Murray and Rusty Selliris each had one goal, and Zack Gapinxki and Cameron Anunson each had one assist.
Hudson will play the winner of St. Cloud versus Fargo on Sunday or Monday.
