The Hudson butcher shop and grocery also placed second in the dried smoked beef category, third in the country bacon category, fourth in the skinless wieners category and fourth in boneless commercial ham.
This year's competition wasn't RJ's first rodeo. The shop is lined with awards that go back to 1994 when owner Rick Reams took home a prize for ringed bologna.

Reams said this year's American Cured Meats Championships was a bit special because it took place in nearby St. Paul and also because of the high number of competitors taking part. There were 1,023 entries this year, which blew away the previous record set in 1994 of just over 700 when the event was held in Milwaukee, according to Reams.
