St. Croix County Republicans Celebrate Scott Walker's Recall Victory

Hundreds of local Republicans gathered at the Hudson Golf Club Tuesday night and watched election results roll in as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker won the gubernatorial recall election over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

Local Republicans erupted into a cheer early Tuesday evening at the as State Rep. Dean Knudson (R-Hudson), announced that had been called by NBC for Gov. Scott Walker.

"This is wonderful. This is a testimony of voters of Wisconsin that the turnout was so successful for Gov. Walker. It shows that the citizens of Wisconsin understand that the reforms worked, and they're going to continue to work," said St. Croix County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Garza. "Now we can move Wisconsin forward to solve problems and also create jobs in the state."

Garza said he was surprised to see the election called so early in the evening.

"To see these kind of results this quickly is very impressive and exciting for everyone here," he said.

Garza said that the Republican volunteers will have one day off from working at the Hudson Victory Center (213 Second St.) before begining work on putting a Republican in the White House this November. He said the result of this recall election is a telling sign of what's to come.

"I think it's huge. It tells Washington D.C. that we want people that can make real reform in this country. Wisconsin is a bellweather and now we know what the citizens of Wisconsin and the United States ultimately want—someone who will solve major economic and budget issues in this country."

As for the other side of the aisle, St. Croix County Democratic Party Chairwoman Cathy Leaf issued the following statement Tuesday night in an email to Hudson Patch:

"We are exceedingly disappointed in the results, which we feel will continue to have a detrimental effect on our state's students, elderly, poor and women. Unfortunately the divide and conquer strategies of the Walker administration will continue to destroy the middle class in our state. We will continue to fight and hold his administration accountable every step of the way until we have our chance to have our voices heard again."
