St. Croix Sheriff's Office Conducting 'Click it or Ticket' Seat Belt Enforcement

Don't want to be stopped later this month? Be safe, wear your seat belt, sheriff says.

ST. CROIX COUNTY — The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office will be conducting their annual Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement from May 23 to June 5.

"Far too many unbuckled drivers and passengers are killed or injured in traffic crashes," Sheriff John Shilts said in a release. "Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and young adults nationwide."

The fine for mandatory seatbelt is $10.00. For a child not in a child safety restraint, the fine starts at $150.10, according to the sheriff's office.

Although Wisconsin's safety belt usage rate is 86 percent - its highest figure to date - approximately half the drivers and passengers who died in traffic crashes last year were not wearing seat belts, according to the Sheriff's Office release.
