The Octagon House Museum Opens May 1st - Celebrating 50 Years!

The Octagon House Museum will open for the 2014 spring tour season on Thursday, May 1st. This year’s museum theme “Picturing the Past” will feature historic photos of the Hudson area form the Historical Society’s photo collection.

2014 is a milestone year for the Octagon House as we celebrate 50 years as a museum. The St. Croix County Historical Society open the Octagon House in 1964 with the support of dedicated volunteers and funds obtained mainly through private donations. The Society continues to maintain the house in the authentic tradition of a fine mid-19th century home.

New this year, the museum has changed its hours by extending the tour hours on Sundays. Walk-in tours are available during the new hours of Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Take a step back into the 19th century with a tour of the elegant, octagon-shaped house as costumed guides share the story of the Moffat-Hughes family. Tours last about one hour. Admission is $9 for adults, $3 for students ages 18 to 13, $2 for children ages 12 to 6 and children 5 and younger free with an adult.

The museum complex includes the Octagon House Museum, beautiful gardens, and the Garden House with general store, blacksmith shop, domestic arts, and medical tableaux. The Museum Gift Shop featuring decorative items for the home and garden, and Victorian inspired gifts. Copies of the historic photos featured in the museum this year will be available for purchase in the Gift Shop during regular tour hours.

Tours are available by appointment for groups of ten or more, by calling the Octagon House at (715) 386-2654. For larger groups (25 plus) special tour times and events may be pre-arranged with additional options such as an elegant afternoon tea, city tour, and more.

The St. Croix County Historical Society continues to seeks new members and volunteers. If you are interest in preserving local history, please consider an annual membership, or volunteering. Additional information and the 2014 calendar of events is available at www.stcroixcountyhistory.org.
