Two-Hour Outage Affects Thousands of Xcel Customers in Hudson, Somerset

A downed tree in Somerset was the cause of an outage that affected 2,181 Xcel customers in the primetime hours Wednesday evening. Power went out at 7:06 p.m. and was restored at 8:44 p.m. for some and 9:15 p.m. for others.

A downed tree in Somerset was responsible for knocking out power for nearly 2,200 Xcel Energy customers in Hudson and Somerset during primetime hours on Wednesday.

According to Brian Elwood, a Hudson resident and manager of Jurisdictional Communications for Xcel, the outage happened when a tree fell into and through a power line at Cloutier Drive and Cedar Street in Somerset at 7:06 p.m.

Service was restored to 654 customers at 8:44 p.m. and to the remaining 1,527 customers at 9:15 p.m., according to Elwood.

Elwood said that any time someone sees a downed line he or she should stay away, assume it is live even if it is not arching or sparking, and either call Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999 or emergency personnel at 911.
