POLL: Would You Ride Bus Rapid Transit Into the Cities?

The commission studying transit on the I-94 corridor from St. Paul to Hudson has ranked bus rapid transit at the top of its options.

Bus rapid transit  of the mass transportation options being considered by the Gateway Corridor Commission

The Gateway Corridor Commission posted this video on its Facebook Page to show how bus rapid transit (BRT) functions. The video gives an idea of what Alternative 3, BRT on a dedicated lane, would look like. The video contains both computer generated images and actual video of the BRT system in Eugene, OR.

The other highly ranked option, Alternative 8, would look a little different because it wouldn't have its own lane. Rather, the buses would run on a MnPASS-like lane that would include cars.

It's worth noting that no dedicated lanes would reach all the way into Hudson. In Alternative 3, the dedicated lane would end at Manning Avenue. A bus shoulder lane would be used from there to Hudson. In Alternative 8, it's unclear how transit would get across the St. Croix River bridge to service Hudson riders.

The Gateway Corridor Commission is scheduled to choose a preferred option in early summer. To learn more about the different options and give feedback, visit TheGatewayCorridor.com, or attend the .
