ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI — Voting in the Wisconsin State Senate 10th District special election on Tuesday, Dec. 19 is underway.
On November 10, 2017, Gov. Scott Walker issued an executive order calling a special election for State Senate District 10 to fill the seat held by the Senator Sheila Harsdorf, who resigned after being appointed as secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Wisconsin's 10th State Senate district serves parts of St. Croix County, Dunn County, Pierce County, Polk County and Burnett County. The district is known as a "Pivot District" in political circles - one that voted for Barack Obama in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016 in successive presidential elections.

According to the Leader-Telegram, Republican legislators representing two of the three Assembly districts comprising the 10th Senate District, freshman Rep. Shannon Zimmerman of River Falls and two-term Rep. Adam Jarchow of Balsam Lake, will face each other in the Republican primary.
On the Democratic Side, John Calabrese, a woodworker and campaign finance reform advocate, St. Croix County Medical Examiner Patty Schachtner and IT service company Digital Brigade CEO Reuben Herfindahl all face each other in the primary.

Libertarian Brian Correa gets to skip the primary election and will face the Democratic and Republican primary winners on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
