Wisconsin's 10th State Senate district serves parts of St. Croix County, Dunn County, Pierce County, Polk County and Burnett County. The district is known as a "Pivot District" in political circles - one that voted for Barack Obama in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016 in successive presidential elections.

On November 10, 2017, Gov. Scott Walker issued an executive order calling a special election for State Senate District 10 to fill the seat held by the Senator Sheila Harsdorf, who resigned after being appointed as secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
