Here are the top 3 stories in Madison today:

1. A malfunctioning elevator at a UW-Madison building left one passenger trapped inside on Sunday. Fire crews from the Madison Fire Department were dispatched to the George L. Mosse Humanities Building shortly before 5 p.m., where they used extrication tools to safely rescue the occupant. According to a spokesperson from the department, the incident caused major damage to the elevator's closing mechanism, and repair workers took over after the passenger was evacuated. (Madison.com)
2. Eight apprenticeship students recently took part in a bricklaying competition at Madison College. The competition took place at the school's Commercial Avenue campus and included students from Madison, Baraboo, and Janesville. Amber Weissmann, one of only a few women who participated in the competition, will be moving on to the state contest in April. (Madison Area Technical College)
3. A construction project on the eastbound Madison Beltline is expected to impact overnight traffic. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the lane improvements will require nightly ramp closures, including the Seminole Highway on-ramp to the EB Beltline, the EB Beltline Todd Drive off-ramp, and the Todd Drive on-ramp to the EB Beltline. Crews will also be installing erosion control devices during this time. (WKOW)
