Here are the top stories today in Madison:
- A newly-opened automated Madison FedEx facility is looking to hire 150 more employees ahead of an anticipated busy holiday season. The 385,000-square-foot station, which currently employs 260 people, is a package sorting facility that allows employees to sort through up to 15,000 packages an hour. Those interested can apply online and receive the various benefits, which FedEx says include competitive wages, holiday pay, and paid parental leave. (WMTV - NBC15)
- Madison City Council is slowly working through the 26 proposed amendments to its 2022 budget, with just four of them voted on at the Council's Tuesday night meeting. The annual budget process typically stretches into the early morning hours, and the council has a rule to recess meetings by midnight unless two-thirds of the body wanted to continue. Discussions resumed at 5:30 p.m. last night, with an additional meeting planned for today if necessary. (Madison.com)
- Records indicate that a Madison Police lieutenant who is on paid, administrative leave after allegedly having a sexual encounter with a woman in his police squad car was on duty at the time of the incident. (WKOW)
- A Madison man charged with 10 felonies in relation to a teenager's drug-related killing was sentenced Wednesday. Marcus Hamilton, 22, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by 20 years of extended supervision, for the death of 18-year-old Gunnar Holum of Dodgeville. (WKOW)
- Dane County has awarded nearly $100,000 in grants this year to local arts organizations, including the Madison Opera, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Madison Symphony Orchestra. (Press Release Desk)
