1. Mpox Cluster Confirmed In Wisconsin As U.S. Cases Rise (patch.com) — Madison readers are being urged by state health officials to stay informed as Wisconsin confirms its first mpox cases of 2026, part of a rising national trend. The Department of Health Services, based in Madison, reports five cases so far and is directing residents to resources on symptoms, testing, vaccination, and prevention to limit further spread.
2. Fire at Madison-Kipp Corp. building under investigation (fox47.com) — A significant fire at the Madison-Kipp Corp. facility on Madison’s near east side drew more than 75 firefighters Tuesday afternoon and temporarily shut down part of South Fair Oaks Avenue. Crews cut open about 50 feet of roof to reach flames in a smokestack and other areas, and the road reopened around 7:20 p.m. after power was cut and the fire was contained.
3. Police clock driver going 93 mph near UW-Madison campus (wkow.com) — UW–Madison police say they recently clocked a driver going 93 mph on Campus Drive, where the limit is 35, as part of a focused speeding crackdown near campus. Several other drivers were cited for speeds between 55 and 77 mph, along with violations like reckless driving, racing, and OWI. Officers are urging Madison motorists to slow down so everyone gets home safely.
4. Public Health Madison and Dane County launch new pilot study to expand beach monitoring (wmtv15news.com) — Public Health Madison & Dane County is launching a summer pilot study to pinpoint what drives E. coli spikes at local beaches and reduce closures. Working with Clean Lakes Alliance, staff will add sampling after heavy rains and keep watching for blue‑green algae, with results expected this fall to guide future water-quality protections.
5. Ulness Selected as World Dairy Expo Digital Marketing Specialist (hoards.com) — World Dairy Expo is returning to Madison this fall, and the organization has hired recent UW–Madison dairy science graduate Clarissa Ulness as its new digital marketing specialist. Ulness will help promote the September 29–October 2, 2026 Expo, which brings dairy producers, trade shows, and seminars to Madison and draws visitors from across Wisconsin and around the world.
