WISCONSIN — Several Milwaukee-area, Madison-area and Door County communities are among the most expensive places to live in Wisconsin, according to 2026 rankings from Niche.
Niche's 2026 cost-of-living rankings compare places using factors that include housing costs, income, taxes, and everyday expenses such as groceries and gas.
Here are 10 Wisconsin places that landed near the high end of the state's cost-of-living rankings, according to Niche:
Brookfield Town, Waukesha County
St. Joseph, St. Croix County
Houlton, St. Croix County
Sobieski, Oconto County
Baileys Harbor, Door County
Troy Town, St. Croix County
Gardner Town, Door County
Seven Mile Creek Town, Juneau County
Chenequa, Waukesha County
Cottage Grove Town, Dane County
Other places near the high end of the list included Linn Town, Lac La Belle, Geneva Town, Liberty Grove and Sister Bay.
The list reflects a mix of Wisconsin's high-cost markets, including lake communities, established Milwaukee-area suburbs, Madison-area suburbs and smaller towns with higher housing costs relative to income.
The ranking does not mean these places have the highest home sale prices in every case. Niche's cost-of-living ranking looks beyond housing alone and includes broader costs tied to living in an area.
But the list shows how some of Wisconsin's highest-cost places are clustered around the Milwaukee and Madison areas, along with destination communities near lakes and other high-demand locations.
