UW-Madison's summer air conditioning woes cost $15.8 million (captimes.com) — A major chilled water line break this summer left many UW–Madison buildings scrambling for cooling, and the university now pegs the total cost at $15.8 million. Temporary chillers, repairs, and additional deterioration work are driving expenses, with the UW System Board of Regents reallocating $40 million to bolster a related utilities project on Engineering Drive.
2. Madison Art Commission showcases Teejop Community Art Project (wmtv15news.com) — Madison's Art Commission is highlighting the Teejop Community Art Project, which explores Indigenous history and the city's cultural roots around the Four Lakes. Seven artists created works now visible in central Madison, including along Martin Luther King Boulevard, ahead of Indigenous Peoples' Day and in collaboration with Ho-Chunk community members.
3. 4. Sustainable Business Council Annual Conference (isthmus.com) — Madison will host the Sustainable Business Council's 19th Annual Conference November 17–18, bringing regional business and sustainability leaders together for workshops, keynotes, and networking. Local professionals can explore governance, workforce, and environmental tracks, join Community Impact Day tours, and register early at discounted rates through October 31.
5. Edgerton the center of new, 'Rascal'-themed destination tour of Wisconsin (gazettextra.com) — A new "Rascal Trail" anime-themed tour is drawing Japanese visitors through Wisconsin, with Madison featured alongside Edgerton, Milwaukee, and Jefferson in the trip's opening days. The 12-day route links sites tied to the book "Rascal," Frank Lloyd Wright, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and the Ice Age Trail, aiming to boost tourism and economic development across the state.
