Happy Wednesday, Madison! Here's everything you need to know going on locally today.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy, a little rain; breezy. High: 46 Low: 19.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Madison:
- Madison BCycle announced Tuesday that its e-bike program will return to the city on Mar. 15. In addition to adding 75 new bikes to the fleet, Madison BCycle will also be extending the ride times for Annual and Monthly members from 60 to 90 minutes per trip. Costs for both membership plans will also increase next month, with an Annual membership totaling $135 and a Monthly membership now totaling $30. (97 Seven Country WGLR)
- Two Republican state lawmakers addressed a crowd of protestors at the Wisconsin Capitol on Tuesday. The protestors gathered in Madison to rally support to overturn the 2020 presidential election following multiple recounts of the vote. One of the lawmakers in attendance, Representative Janel Brandtjen, spoke directly to the demonstrators, telling them "You're not crazy." (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
- Madison Metropolitan School District has temporarily paused plans to eliminate standalone honors classes at its high schools. The district had initially planned to phase out the classes as early as the 2022 fall semester but is now taking additional time to gather feedback from students, parents, and school board members. Kaylee Jackson, executive director for curriculum for MMSD, says replacing standalone honors classes with an "Earned Honors" program is part of the district's "anti-racist strategy." (Isthmus)
