The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Madison.

Hello again, Madison! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Madison Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Madison Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Madison long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

Rather cloudy and frigid. High: 20 Low: 14.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Madison:

  1. A total of 32 vehicles were pulled over by Madison police for speeding on the Beltline near Old Saulk Road on Monday. Authorities say all of the vehicles were driving at least 75 miles per hour, which is 20 miles per hour over the road's speed limit. The traffic stops were made as part of an enhanced traffic enforcement project in Madison that focuses on speeding and seat belt violations. (Channel3000.com - WISC-TV3)
  2. Police arrested two suspects who were allegedly caught breaking into different homes and falling asleep on the victims' couches in two unrelated incidents over the weekend. The first break-in happened at a home on Darbo Drive on Saturday afternoon, and the second incident occurred Monday morning on Williamson Street. Eleanor Caesar, one of the victims, called the coincidence "super bizarre." (Channel3000.com - WISC-TV3)
  3. Various sites across Madison are offering free sand to residents this winter. Demetral Park, Glenway Golf Course, and the School Road Waste Oil Site are some of the many locations with sand piles available to help residents protect themselves from falls on the snow and ice. Anyone wishing to collect the sand should plan to bring their own pail and shovel. (WKOW)
