🌱 BGCDC, Dane County Neighbors Collect Masks + Teens Steal Car

Here are the top 3 stories today in Madison:

1. The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and Dane County Neighbors are partnering to raise money for 200,000 masks for the Madison Metropolitan School District. Organizers say that 200,000 N95 and KN95 masks have already been ordered, and they are seeking additional donations from community members. Once enough money has been raised for the initiative and organizers have received the masks, the groups will put together a committee to determine an equitable distribution plan. (Isthmus)
2. Dane County Sheriff's deputies arrested three teens who stole a vehicle from a gas station parking lot on Milwaukee Street. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 9, when a Sheriff's deputy located and followed the vehicle, which had been reported stolen an hour earlier. The driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle near Venus Way and fled on foot, but officers were able to locate the three juveniles nearby. (Press Release Desk)
3. To contain the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible, the Dane County Sheriff's Office conducted a mass testing of every resident in the Dane County Jail on Monday. Anyone in the jail who had already tested positive in the previous 90 days was exempt from the testing. COVID positive cases have been increasing in the jail over the past few weeks, and as of Monday, there were 54 positive cases among residents of the jail. (Press Release Desk)
