Here are the top 3 stories today in Madison:

  1. EMTs saved an infant's life Thursday after the 11-month-old child put a bottlecap in his mouth and began to choke. Madison Fire Department officials say the child's heart stopped beating after first responders performing back blows and chest compressions were unable to dislodge the cap. Crews then used Magill forceps and a laryngoscope to successfully remove the obstruction from the child's airway. Channel3000.com - WISC-TV3)
  2. The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education Teacher Pledge program has been extended through the 2025-2026 school year to help alleviate the state's ongoing educator shortage. Under the Teacher Pledge program, the university pays for an education student's in-state tuition and associated fees in exchange for the student's pledge to teach three to four years in a K-12 school in Wisconsin. 350 students have already participated in the program since it launched in August 2020.
